The UK’s first and only research centre focused on home education.
The Centre for Elective Home Education Research UK (CEHER) collates, produces and shares research on home education. Our aim is to build a central hub for research and knowledge exchange that enhances understanding of home education in the UK and supports research-informed decision making.
Research on elective home education exists across academic journals, doctoral and masters theses, government reports, and community publications, but it can be fragmented and difficult to access. CEHER brings this research together in one searchable place, serving everyone who needs evidence-based information: families, researchers, policymakers and professionals.
What do we do?
Building an Evidence Base for Home Education
At CEHER, we are building a searchable research repository that gathers published work related to home education, including both academic research and work produced within the community itself. We regularly update the public database and continue to grow this collection, with over two thousand articles and more than a hundred books still to be added. You can use this form to support this work and share your recommendations with us.
We make research accessible as it becomes available, while the repository grows into a comprehensive collection over time. We also provide opportunities for home educators to contribute reviews of research, offering context and community perspective alongside the academic literature.
Get Involved
CEHER welcomes collaboration from researchers, practitioners, and those with lived experience of home education.
We are seeking to establish:
- An advisory board consisting of home-educating families and professionals
- Community reviewers to provide perspective on published research
- Volunteers to assist with collating and cataloguing resources for the Library
